How to buy Bitcoin and crypto in Pakistan

Most people in Pakistan buy crypto through peer-to-peer (P2P) marketplaces, paying in rupees by bank transfer or mobile wallet. Here's how to do it safely.

How P2P buying works

On a P2P marketplace you buy crypto directly from another person, while the exchange holds the seller's crypto in escrow. You pay the seller in rupees; once they confirm the money arrived, the exchange releases the crypto to you. If something goes wrong, the exchange's support team settles the dispute.

Step by step

  1. Create and verify an account on a large exchange that offers P2P in PKR, and turn on two-factor authentication.
  2. Open P2P → Buy → USDT and set the currency to PKR and your payment method (bank transfer, JazzCash, Easypaisa…).
  3. Choose the seller carefully: hundreds of completed trades, a completion rate above 95%, and verified status.
  4. Enter the amount and open the order. The seller's crypto is now locked in escrow.
  5. Pay exactly the amount shown, from an account in your own name, within the time limit.
  6. Click "Transferred, notify seller". When the seller confirms, the USDT appears in your funding wallet.
  7. Move the USDT to your spot wallet and buy Bitcoin or any other coin.

Staying safe on P2P

  • Never pay or chat outside the platform. Escrow only protects trades that stay inside it.
  • Never click "transferred" before you actually paid — and as a seller, never release crypto until the money is in your account.
  • Ignore "support agents" who message you first. Real exchange support never asks for your password or 2FA code.
  • Watch the payment reference. Don't write "crypto" or "USDT" in the transfer note unless the seller's terms allow it.
  • Keep screenshots of every payment until the order is complete.

Regulation and taxes

In 2025 Pakistan set up the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) to license and regulate crypto businesses, and the rules are still developing. Keep a record of what you buy and sell, and check current guidance from official sources and a tax adviser — this page isn't legal or tax advice.
